Trosaby cider mill
Trosaby Mellangård, the picturesque farm in the heart of our countryside, has initiated an ambitious project to develop a sustainable and diversified operation focused on the production and processing of organic fruits and berries. The project aims to strengthen the local economy, reduce food waste, and promote sustainable food production by establishing a local cider mill.
About the project
The purpose of the project is to develop Trosaby Mellangård into a sustainable and diversified operation that produces and processes organic fruits and berries into cider, juice, and jam.
The goal of the project is to construct a 70 m2 insulated building and equip it with cider mill equipment for pressing and pasteurizing fruit, install electricity and water, and allocate space for storage of fruit and processed products. The goal is also to market the cider mill through a new website and conduct an event in cider making and tasting.
The activities in the project include self-work in the form of land preparation, construction, procurement of building materials, installation of fixed furnishings such as cider mill equipment and lighting, purchase of services for electricity and plumbing, as well as marketing efforts and collaboration with associations, businesses, and other food artisans.
Project
”With the leader support, we can realize our dream of our own cider mill and storage”
LAG's decision justification
The project contributes to the focus area Local Food. By establishing a local cider mill, the processing of locally grown fruit can increase significantly, creating new opportunities for small-scale growers to reach the market with their products. This not only leads to a reduction in food waste by utilizing surplus fruit but also provides the local population with access to fresh, locally produced cider and juice. The cider mill will become a central point for collaboration between growers, food artisans, and consumers, strengthening the local economy and promoting sustainable food production. Additionally, the project creates new job opportunities in processing and sustainability, further contributing to a vibrant countryside.

About the project
NOTE: The project is only prioritized by the Leader area. Due to long processing times at the Swedish Board of Agriculture, the formal decision is expected to be made in the autumn of 2024.
The project has established a support amount of 499,045 SEK, of which the project support constitutes 199,618 SEK and private financing 299,427 SEK. A support share of 40% is justified and well-founded as it ensures economic sustainability, efficient use of public funds, risk-sharing, and stimulation of additional private financing.
