Processing kitchen for Skilleby Garden

A kitchen enables processing of your own raw materials, food events and courses

About the project

Skilleby garden outside Järna in Södertälje municipality currently operates organic farming. They will now, together with chef Jacob Ker Lamb, expand their operations by building a kitchen on the farm that can be used for processing/preparation/preparation. The investment strengthens the possibilities to process their own grown products, they can hold food events, courses and ”food festivals”. The kitchen can be built in an existing building – the packing hall – and two patios will be built to accommodate diners and participants in food events.

There is already a network of food companies that have ”Friday markets” on the farm. Leader believes that the project will strengthen the opportunities for companies to develop their operations and sees many benefits of collaboration.

The project is ongoing in 2024.

The project is prioritized by Leader Sörmland Coast and is awaiting the Swedish Board of Agriculture's formal decision.

THE PROJECT

”"We want to strengthen our function as a knowledge hub about local ingredients - a processing kitchen can help us with that"”

Why was the project prioritized?

LAG's decision on prioritization with justification:

LAG sees opportunities for Skilleby Trädgård to develop as a destination for local food and groceries, and that the site can serve as a hub for other companies that offer sales, events and food markets. By investing in a kitchen, the company can develop its own business through processing its own vegetables and the ability to prepare food on site.

The investment also enables other companies to develop by collaborating on dinner events and food festivals. The project is expected to create added value for local food producers, as well as contribute to strengthening existing and creating new networks around food and groceries in Järna and Sörmland.
