A new destination through an open visitor center
Sörbro farm gets more visitors through open farm and farm shop
About the project
Sörbro farm in Södertälje municipality has been running a goat farm since 2009. They primarily produce dairy products and meat from goats, but also vegetables, eggs and beef. They have noticed an increased interest in the farm from visitors - who are primarily curious about goat farming.
In a project funded by Leader, they want to develop the farm's attraction as a tourist destination in the countryside. This is done by expanding the unmanned farm shop - which sells its own and other producers' products - and by expanding a visitor area on the farm. Sörbro farm wants to design the farm so that there is an opportunity to park, look at the animals, and have a coffee without disturbing the farm's operations. To develop the farm into an open visitor farm.
The project runs from 2023 to 2024.

THE PROJECT
”We think it's really fun to have visitors and we're happy to talk about our organic operations.
We want to do "It makes it possible for them to have an even more rewarding visit without disrupting the farm's operations."”
Why was the project prioritized?
LAG's decision on prioritization with justification:
By expanding and converting Sörbro Farm's unmanned store to become staffed and offering more services and products, the initiative can increase profitability for the individual agricultural entrepreneur and create new jobs. A safe and secure meeting place for visitors also benefits the public's interest in experiencing a new destination.
An accessible farm makes it easier for the agricultural entrepreneur to showcase their business and spread knowledge about how and where the food comes from. It is also reasonable that the expanded farm shop, in collaboration with other producers, can offer an expanded range of both products and services, e.g. packaged vegetable boxes with varied vegetable products, café services, grill packages and picnic boxes. In the long run, the project can create the basis for more products to be sold locally under a brand.
