Grocery hub at Christineholm

A feasibility study on how local food producers can share space for processing, storage, logistics solutions, and sales

About the feasibility study

Christineholm estate in Nyköping municipality sees the opportunities to develop a “food hub” – where local producers can share space for processing, storage, logistics solutions, and sales in the existing farm shop. To better understand how a large-scale establishment can be built, Leader Sörmlandskusten has prioritized providing support for a feasibility study.

Maria Cole and Karin Wachtmeister lead the work on the feasibility study. In the project, they will map out the conditions for a hub for food processing and how it could be organized.

The project is completed.

PRELIMINARY STUDY

”We want to explore the possibility of becoming a place for food producers and processors when the ”own kitchen” is too small. We believe that a food hub can create synergies between small-scale producers.”

Why was the project prioritized?

LAG's decision on prioritization with justification:

Christineholm Property Management AB has good conditions to build a space for example for the sale of food, production, processing, storage, or space for continued logistics solutions in combination with the established farm shop. The study can contribute to a better understanding of how a new business area should be developed for increased business benefits for the landlord versus specifically the incoming partner Coles Nordic Delights. The project's design also provides good opportunities for collaboration with already established companies on the farm and to create synergies with future actors. There is a plan for how the study's results will be communicated at relevant meetings for the networks that have been involved.
