Stjärnholm's smart irrigation
Preliminary study on irrigation of the riding club's sand arena
About the feasibility study
Stjärnholm's equestrian association wants to use its sand arena in more and different ways than what is possible today. In spring and summer, usage is limited due to dust – making it impossible to ride on and work around. The club has long considered the best solution and now wants to conduct a preliminary study ”Stjärnholm's smart irrigation for expansion.”.
In the preliminary study, a consultant will look at solutions for irrigation, the main proposal to be investigated is to draw brackish water from the sea to a cistern and irrigate from it. In the preliminary study, the consultant will calculate and conduct a technical investigation of the solution, have discussions with stakeholders such as landowners, tenants, investigate what permits are needed, risks and timeline, as well as a budget. An alternative proposal will also be investigated.
The preliminary study will be conducted in the fall of 2026.
NOTE The project is prioritized by the Leader Sörmlandskusten board. A decision is expected from the Swedish Board of Agriculture.
ABOUT THE PRELIMINARY STUDY
”Through the preliminary study, we want to make a future investment to create conditions for broadening our activities with riding opportunities on the arena.”
LAG's decision justification
Leader Sörmlandskusten views positively on conducting a preliminary study and through a consultant project for irrigation of the sand arena at Stjärnholm's equestrian association. Through a preliminary study, the riding club can create conditions to expand the use of the sand arena and thus enable a broadening of the club's activities.
The board sees that Stjärnholm's equestrian association is important for children, youth, and adults in the local community – both members and visitors – and that the club works inclusively and in collaboration with other organizations and the public sector. There is potential for a continued development project with broadening of activities at Stjärnholm.
