Stables for seniors
Ekbackens Riding Association is seeking project support to adapt and furnish a space at the equestrian facility to create a new social meeting place and activity room for older individuals.
About the project
The background to the project is the association's desire to broaden its activities to include more target groups than today, particularly older individuals and people with disabilities, who currently have limited opportunities to participate in activities due to inaccessible premises. There is a clear need to create a warm, safe, and functional gathering space with good accessibility, something that has been requested in dialogue with both the association's members and local partners such as RF-SISU, PRO, and elderly care services.
Today, the space is uninsulated, impractical, and not adapted for anything other than storage areas. Without investments, it is not possible
to conduct activities during the winter months or offer an environment that is perceived as safe, inclusive, and
welcoming.
The association therefore sees a need to develop an adapted gathering place for activities that strengthen both the social context and the opportunity for physical activity in a new phase of life – a need that also reflects
a broader societal challenge of increased loneliness among the elderly.

LAG's decision justification
”Stable hanging for seniors” addresses a clear and often overlooked need: to offer meaningful, accessible meeting places for older individuals and people with disabilities. By adapting part of an existing facility to a new target group, the project contributes to opening up equestrian facilities for more – while simultaneously creating conditions for social community and participation far beyond the arena.
The project is based on a well-thought-out development effort with strong local anchoring and collaboration. The association has also commendably managed previous challenges by dividing the investments between itself and the property owners, which makes the distribution of responsibilities and state aid assessment clear.

The purpose with the project is to develop and make accessible a meeting place for new target groups
The goal of the project is to adapt Ekbackens riding facility with three new gathering rooms, a storage room, a changing room, a new glass section facing the riding hall, a terrace with access from the gathering space, and a wheelchair lift.
Activities in the project include purchased services for demolition, reconstruction, and installation work of an entrance floor in a stable facility
