Robust scaling up of vegetable farming
New washing, sorting and packaging line will strengthen local vegetable production
About the project
The project Robust scaling up of vegetable farming will strengthen local production, handling and delivery of organic root vegetables and vegetables in Sörmland. An important background to the initiative is the procurement that Södertälje Municipality has carried out within food preparedness as a service – from primary production to emergency storage. The procurement has been an important driving force for Linus Källander and Peace, Love and Farming AB to develop the business to meet future needs.
Through investments in new washing, sorting and packaging equipment, we create better opportunities to deliver to public kitchens, reduce waste and strengthen delivery reliability. The investment also contributes to increased local food supply, reduced transport dependency and stronger preparedness in the region.
ABOUT THE PROJECT
”"This is an initiative that strengthens both our own operations and the local food supply. With better opportunities to wash, sort and pack our vegetables, we can deliver more locally, more stably and become less vulnerable.".
LAG's decision justification
The project Robust scaling up of vegetable farming is considered to contribute to the Leader Sörmland Coast's goal of a sustainable and competitive rural area. By establishing local infrastructure for organic staple crops, both food security and regional preparedness are strengthened. The implementation of new processes for washing and packaging generates added value outside the company's own operations and enables large-scale deliveries, increased delivery reliability and reduced waste. The board therefore finds that the project corresponds well to the area's strategy and prioritized efforts.
