From rat poison to culture – a new era at Fagernäs

An old industrial building in Mölnbo will get new life. Where industrial activities were previously conducted, a place for art, culture, creation, and meetings is now being created .

About the project

From industrial environment to vibrant cultural place

Fagernäs is a culturally historically interesting industrial environment with great potential, but the building needs extensive measures to be used for its new purpose.

Through the Leader project, fundamental investments are being made to make the premises usable. Among other things, new floor constructions are being built, spaces adapted for studios and workrooms, and necessary technical installations are being carried out.

The idea is at the same time to reuse an existing building instead of building new and let the site's industrial history become part of the new operation's identity.

A place for more than just the artists

The ambition is greater than merely creating workspaces. Fagernäs will be developed into a place where artistic activities can meet the local community through exhibitions, creative activities, collaborations, and other public events.

There will be space for both professional cultural practitioners and a broader public, with special opportunities to develop activities that involve children and youth.

The project thus creates new conditions for culture and creative activities in the countryside and contributes to preserving a large older industrial environment by providing a new and long-term sustainable use .

Project

”We want to take advantage of the old industrial environment and fill it with art, creation, and people – a place where culture can be produced, experienced, and developed together”
– Erik and Signe, The Karl Schultz-Köln Foundation and Marita Mörck-Schultz

LAG's decision justification

The LAG board sees the project as an unusually large investment in culture-driven rural development. Here, cultural environment, reuse, local development, creative entrepreneurship, and new opportunities for participation and meetings are combined. .

The project builds on the preliminary study that was previously conducted with support from Leader and means that the ideas go from planning to actual implementation.
