What is Swedenfest?

What is Swedenfest?

Swedenfest is an annual Sweden festival that takes place in the historic Hanseatic town of Wismar in August. The festival celebrates the Swedish rule over the town in the 17th century and has become a cherished tradition that attracts thousands of visitors from the entire region and abroad.

Why participate?
  • Take part in a diverse program with new attractions and activities for all ages.
  • Sell and showcase your Swedish products and specialties at the large market.
  • Network with other Swedish companies and cultural practitioners.
  • Experience concerts and performances by Swedish artists and music groups.

We were there!

We saw Swedenfest as an excellent activity to include in our project Welcome Germany. Here we had a unique chance to explore the conditions and opportunities to establish a network for those who want to participate in the market in the coming years.

Over four days, we promoted Sweden/Sörmland by telling about our shared history. A quiz with an appealing prize (weekend at Swedish cultural gems) attracted many visitors to our booths. In the evenings, we were invited to attend ceremonial celebrations related to the festival, such as Hansastadt Wismar and the German-Swedish association.

Welcome to Swedenfest – from idea to reality!

Hello! My name is Cornelia Eriksson, initiator of our participation in Swedenfest in Wismar. I am passionate about creating memorable meetings and love to drive projects that both challenge and develop. With a background as a manager, teacher, and entrepreneur, I have always enjoyed collaborating with others and seeing how people grow, develop their skills, and find new opportunities.

I see Swedenfest as a fantastic opportunity for us to showcase our Swedish products and traditions on an international stage. The market in Wismar attracts thousands of visitors who are curious about Swedish flavors, crafts, and culture. For us exhibitors, it is a chance not only to sell products but also to test our ideas on a new audience and receive valuable feedback.

Sales can vary, and I want to be realistic – it is difficult to know exactly how much we can sell. Small items that are easy to transport and simple for visitors to carry tend to be popular. This can involve typical Swedish products such as food crafts, handcrafted items, and other quality products with a clear Swedish touch. Think of classics like gingerbread cookies, meatballs, juice, lingonberry jam, and crafts in wood or textile. Tastings are also a big attraction at the market, so why not let visitors taste Sweden?

But the journey is about more than just sales. It is an experience in itself – an opportunity to network, get to know other exhibitors, and experience the unique atmosphere of the festival. It is also an occasion to gain insight into how our products are received in an international market and to be inspired by everything the festival has to offer.

My goal is for all of us to have fun, learn something new, and come home with both new ideas and memories. Whether it is your first event abroad or if you have experience with similar arrangements, Swedenfest is an opportunity that I hope we can seize together.

I hope you want to join this journey! Contact me if you are interested in participating – I look forward to hearing from you.

With warmth,
Cornelia Eriksson
